So this is really not a very good picture. The Kitten kept moving while we were talking the picture, but here is my story about this Kitten.
I got off work early yesterday with plans to meet my husband at my mom's house where he had been doing laundry and I was going to work on Christmas Craft Projects. Shortly before I arrived at my mom's house, Mr Doorman had found this kitten almost frozen to death on the doorstep. He wasn't sure what to do with it so he just found a blanket to put around it until either myself or my mom came home.
I found a laundry basket and another blanket and wrapped the kitten up and took it inside. We couldn't just leave it outside to die. The kitten barely moved for about 3 hours. We periodically checked on it and nudged it to see if it was still alive. Usually it would moved just enough to bury its head more into the blanket.
We could tell when it was started to warm up because my mom's dog, started smelling it and was trying very hard to get to it. That was almost the best entertainment, watching the dog try to get at the kitten in the laundry basket that was sitting on a shelf. The dog didn't give up all night, she wanted the kitten. (I am not sure if it was to make friends with it or to eat it like she does the rest of her furry animal toys)
Around 5 pm it perked up and we got it to walk around the kitchen (The Dog helped to get it moving since she intimidated the kitten to hiding behind the treadmill), and eat some tuna fish. The Kitten (which Mr. Doorman named Sicle (like Popsicle, because it was frozen like one) or Frostbite) spent the rest of the evening in the laundry basket wrapped up in a blanket getting warm. We had to decide what to do with it. Mom is allergic (and interestingly so is the dog- her eyes were pretty red and swollen) and we can't have animals in my apartment. Dad made a phone call to a friend and we found a home for it. Unfortunatly he isn't able to take it until today. So the kitten came home with Mr. Doorman and myself to sleep in our bathroom.
There is a pretty large gap under the bathroom door which we had pushed a towel into hoping to keep the kitten contained until morning. Unfortunatly the kitten found its way around the barrier around 4:00 this morning. We heard its meow just outside our bedroom door. So we had to get up and find the kitten. (It is a little timid of people and likes to hide) We got it back into the bathroom and fixed the barrier and went back to bed.
This morning the kitten was a lot more active and friendly. It was purring a lot (it's motor wouldn't shut off) and while I was doing my hair and makeup, it was rubbing against our legs.
I am not really a cat person. It was fun (and a little rewarding) to see this poor kitten go from being barely alive to socializing with us. But it will be really nice to take it to its new owner tonight.
